Collection: ceramic art tiles & pottery

Decorate your home or office with striking ceramic pieces made by hand using time-honored methods that produce a nuanced range of color with depth and translucence.  Our collection of decorative and functional ceramic pieces are handmade by Michigan artists, including Motawi Tileworks, Black Cat Pottery, Little Traverse Tileworks, Whistling Frog, Jeanne DeHaan, Kathy Sandberg and Frank Fischer.

Nawal Motawi, owner of Motawi Tileworks, graduated from the University of Michigan’s Stamps School of Art & Design.  Her Ann Arbor, Mich., company is recognized by Forbes magazine as a Small Giant (a company that chooses to be great instead of big).  Motawi artisans glaze each bisque-fired art tile by hand, carefully filling glazes into the "basins" created by thin raised lines in the clay.

Having earned a BA in Art History from Michigan State University and an MA in Art History and Archaeology from Cornell University, Cheryl English, owner of Black Cat Pottery, realized she much preferred making art to dissecting it.  The Detroit-based artist is also a Master Gardener, so her handmade Itty Bitty boxes and flower wall art are all inspired by nature.

Kathy Sandberg produces functional and creative pottery at her Plymouth, Mich., studio and at the Village Potter's Guild. Kathy is one of the founding members of the 25 year-old Guild, where she has taught several years of adult classes. Her current expressions in clay are the result of years of study and experimentation.

Jeanne DeHaan of Highland, Mich., has created and taught art for more than 20 years. Primarily a painter in both watercolor and oils, recent changes have caused a lost love of pottery to reemerge. Her love and influence is pure Michigan!
