The Little Detail That Makes a Big Difference: Fillets in Custom Framing

When designing a custom frame, it’s often the smallest details that make the biggest impact. One of our favorite design elements? The fillet.

A fillet is a narrow decorative molding that sits inside the frame or along the edge of a mat opening. Think of it as a finishing touch. It's subtle, elegant, and incredibly effective at punching up a piece of artwork.

Fillets are often used to add contrast, pick up a color from the artwork, or introduce a touch of gold, silver, or texture without overpowering the piece. They’re especially helpful when a design needs a little extra depth or when you want to visually separate the art from the frame without using a linen liner.

In custom framing, fillets allow us to fine-tune a design and create something truly tailored to the artwork and your space. They’re proof that thoughtful details matter and that custom framing is about more than just choosing a frame.

If you’re curious whether a fillet could be used in your next framing project, we’d love to show you the possibilities. Make an appointment to design something special.
