Peek-a-Boo. 6 x 8 in. Original four-color reduction linoleum block print on archival fine art paper by Natalia Wohletz of Peninsula Prints. Limited edition print run of 5. Water based ink.
Peek-a-Boo is part of a two-block print series with Forever Friends celebrating the friendship between a horse and child. The design was inspired by Blaze, a pony on Mackinac Island, Mich. The print was created in a reduction carve-print cycle in which every new color must be carved out of the block. In this case, yellow was the first color printed followed by peach, green and then navy blue.
The print comes with a soft white archival mat packaged in a recyclable clear bag. It also may be ordered with a black wood gallery frame featuring one archival, acid-free white mat, conservation clear glass, Kraft paper dust cover on back and hanging hardware. To design a custom frame specifically styled for your decor, please contact us for details. The design is also available as a note card to frame or send. Cards may be customized with a personal message inside.
About the artist:
Draw. Carve. Print. Those are the three steps Michigan artist Natalia Wohletz takes to create linoleum block prints. After carving her first block in fall 2014, printmaking immediately became her passion. She enjoys exploring printmaking’s place on the border between art and craft, and the challenge of flipping traditional positive-negative space techniques when creating her work.
Natalia is inspired by Michigan's natural landscapes and wildlife. Many of her designs showcase scenes of Mackinac Island where she spent her childhood exploring the woods and lakeshore. Her work has been featured in ArtPrize and several juried exhibitions throughout Michigan. She won first prize in the 2019 Contemporary Art Exhibition at the Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Island Art Museum for Trail Lookout. For every card and original print sold, Natalia makes a donation to the Mackinac Island Community Foundation to support the arts and environmental initiatives.
