Blue Tuscan Oak by Maeve Croghan. Oil on canvas. 30" x 30" Natural maple float frame with black interior.

About the Artist:

Listening to waves break on the shore, watching delicate petals of wildflowers sway in the breeze and riding horseback along Mackinac Island’s forest trails are experiences that shaped Maeve Croghan’s perception of the world. She says the beauty of the lake and woods became a part of her soul as a young child. Now as an expressionist nature painter, she strives to convey her feelings of awe, wonder and joy of nature while painting amazing places.

Maeve Croghan’s painting, Russet Vines, will grace more than 1 million bottles of 2020 Nouveau. She is the winner of the fourth annual wine label competition for the Georges Duboeuf winery, in Beaujolais, France. There were more than 1,000 submissions and 10,000-plus votes cast on social media, according to Duboeuf CEO Franck Duboeuf. “Maeve’s painting is a perfect depiction of the vines when the leaves start to fall and the first glass of Nouveau is ready to be shared,” he says.

The award-winning artist’s work is also featured in juried exhibit throughout the country as well as part of the permanent collections of the Matsumoto Museum in Matsumoto, Japan, the Salt Road Museum in Omachi, Japan, the Museum of the Living Artist, San Diego, Calif., the Anchorage Museum of Art, Alaska, the Laguna Beach Museum, Calif., and the Art Museum of Los Gatos, Calif. Her work also graces the wine bottle labels of Castoro Cellars in Templeton, Calif., and pages of art books. Maeve earned a BA in Art and Education from the New College of Calif.  She shares her time between two studios located on Mackinac island, Mich., and in San Francisco.
